GREENS DRAINAGE

Our process
To begin, XGM surveys the entire green using a self leveling laser. By doing so, it gives us a more thorough interpretation of how water is moving on the green. Once the surveying is complete, we then determine the layout of our drainage system.

Now that we know the direction the water is moving and where the water may possibly be sitting, we cut the sod on 6’ centers which feed into a mainline and off the green. The sod is cut manually using a 7” Miltona blade. Each piece of sod is orderly stacked and carried off of the green.
Plywood is then laid out to protect the surrounding green from our
excavation.

All lines are trenched using a walk behind trencher that trenches every line 3”-4” wide averaging 16” deep. The dirt is trenched onto the plywood, shoveled up, and thrown into the back of a UTV.
Before we install any pipe, we check each trenched line with the self leveling laser to ensure that the lines are all gravity flow. This system will constantly be ready to drain 24/7.

The 2” perforated drain pipe is then inserted into the bottom of the trenches.

To backfill the trenches, we use a popular 6-2-2 mix. This mix has a great perc rate and prevents the trenched lines from drying out too quickly. Tamping the mix is a 3 step process. This prevents the greens from having any settling issues.

After the 3 phase tamping process is complete we start installing each piece of sod back to it’s original location. The sod is manually hand tamped followed by a vibrating plate compactor. This helps to prevent any scalping the next time the green is mowed.

Once we have thoroughly checked the green over to our satisfaction, our process is complete and your green is ready for play resulting in a faster rolling and vibrant green.
